WiMax - the next generation wireless technology to WiFi, which allows for up to a 30 mile range for Internet connectivity and throughputs to 40Mbps. I was thoroughly wowed when WiFi was introduced to the market, and now this! What a dream for someone like myself who is constantly scurrying about town.

Now naturally, given the ubiquity of laptops and various mobile computers with default internet access, a great deal of us take this near phenomena for granted. Unfortunately, a large fraction of our community is not economically inclined to access such modern convenience. Newport Digital Technologies has a unique position to help in many facets of our community, and an opportunity has recently been revealed.

On Wednesday January 27, 2010, Newport Digital Technologies signed a Letter of Intent to engage in a dynamically experimental, philanthropic and ultimately demonstrative exhibition of their WiMax solution. NPDT has the opportunity to participate in a $500M State and Federal Grant program earmarked for schools and public areas that do not have wireless connectivity. NPDT has taken action to demonstrate the capability of WiMax long range broadband internet connectivity by installing a base station and a long range subscriber station between NPDT's Corporate Office in Newport Beach, CA and the OCDE's (Orange County Department of Education) Learning Resources Center in Costa Mesa, CA.

Newport Digital Technologies is thrilled to be a part of this 'last mile' connectivity initiative, benefiting society at many different levels. How auspicious that a company such as NPDT can exercise its influence to bring the amazing applications of recent technology to those who need it most.
